Kitchen Design Inspiration - key kitchen trends of 2016.

As I consider the kitchen as the hub of the home I like to make sure I decorate and update it when needed to keep it looking its best and being a welcoming place to spend time in. Whilst not the grandest of kitchens our kitchen is the heart of our home; it is where meals are created, cakes are baked with the kids, first tastes are experienced as Jelly Bean weans and where I chat with friends and family over a cup of tea.

Even though we are a little limited on how we can update and decorate our existing kitchen due to renting as we plan on finding our forever home in the near future I am always keeping an eye out for ideas to help me design my dream kitchen. During a recent splurge of browsing the internet and sites such as Pinterest for kitchen design inspiration I came across a post by Better Decorating Bible highlighting the hottest kitchen trends for 2016.

Showcasing Mayfair Granite’s predictions of what kitchen trends will be popular this year the post has given me some fab ideas of how I would like my dream kitchen in our forever home to look like and what key features I would like in it.

Here are some of the design ideas I am loving –

* Bold Appliances
I am loving the trend of moving from standard coloured kitchen appliances that is predicated to happen this year. I would love to banish the traditional white, black and stainless steel look appliances and add character and show my individual colourful and eclectic style by adding a splash of bright, vibrant colour to the kitchen with colourful kitchen appliances – maybe a bright red fridge freezer or a purple kettle and toaster set, or perhaps a blue food mixer.

* Luxurious Worktops
My dream kitchen would be complete if I could have a luxurious worktop fitted that would not only look stylish and deluxe, but would also be durable and last well over the years. Whilst I have not set my mind on the exact worktop, I find myself lusting after quartz worktops as they are beautiful and elegant. I would love a bespoke quartz worktop with a sparkle design to finish off my kitchen to a luxurious standard, perhaps in dark grey or black which are trending kitchen worktop colours right now, or perhaps in a bright colour such as red or blue to make a big style statement.

* Colourful Cabinets
To inject yet more colour and personality into the kitchen I think it might just adopt the other kitchen trend of colourful cabinets. The idea of using contrasting cabinets such as combining different colours and using different textures and materials is an appealing one as I am sure it would make for an eye-catching, unique and exciting kitchen!

If you want to be inspired by the other kitchen trends that are predicted to be big this year such as large format flooring and luxury vinyl, pendant lighting, open cabinets and smart storage, then take a look at the article mentioned above.
