Christmas time in London

We love Christmas.

It is such a magical time of year. I love nothing more than making it exciting and magical for the children, seeing them enchanted with the magic of Santa and their gleeful faces as they enjoy all Christmassy things before the joy of opening gifts galore on the big day.

Another big love of mine is to see the twinkle of Christmas lights and decorations adorning streets, houses and shops. Christmas events such as Winter Wonderlands are like heaven to me. Likewise I love the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, finding that perfect gift for my loved ones before beautifully wrapping them to place under the sparkling Christmas tree.

As I love Christmas especially Christmas shopping on high streets that are showcasing captivating Christmas decorations, we have decided to venture further afield for out Christmas shopping this year with a little trip to London.

With so many magical things to do at Christmas in London from Christmas shopping, festive events, Christmas markets, ice skating rinks and Winter Wonderlands, my love of all things Christmassy will be well and truly satisfied by a visit to London at Christmas. Plus seeing the capital adorned with twinkling lights, Christmas decorations and stunning Christmas trees will be a wonderfully magical sight for the children.

Here are a few of the Christmas themed things I would love to do whilst visiting London -

Trafalgar Square Christmas tree
A trip to London during December would not be complete without visiting the magnificent Christmas tree that is displayed in Trafalgar Square. I love the tradition of the tree being donated to the people of Britain by the city of Oslo each year and it would be amazing to be able to say I’ve seen it in person. It would be even more magical if we manage to visit when there is carol singing underneath the tree….a truly festive delight.

Christmas shopping
As well as hitting the high street shops where I will have to make sure to visit Liberty of London (I’ve wanted to visit here for many, many years), Harrods and Selfridges even if it is just to see what their Christmas displays and departments, top of my list is exploring the numerous Christmas markets and festive fairs that fill the capital during the month of December.

Winter Wonderland
Christmas would not be complete without a visit to a Winter Wonderland and the one in Hyde Park looks perfect for getting festive. I know the kids will love the huge funfair and games, and I will enjoy exploring the Christmas market and the festive atmosphere.

Ice skating
Giving us a little snowy and wintery wonder ice skating is perfect for Christmas fun. Thanks to lots of ice rinks popping up all across London at places such as Canary Wharf and the Natural History Museum we will be able to enjoy a little Winter ice skating.

Christmas At Kew
Christmas time at Kew Gardens sounds magical thanks to the twinkly light trail after dark where in the setting of stunning lights there are also Victorian funfair rides and food stalls.

I cannot wait for our Christmassy trip to London where we will enjoy a few magical days in the capital. With so much Christmas events and shopping to enjoy we will be grateful to be able to rest our heads and get some much needed relaxation after busy Christmas filled days at the holiday apartment of Short Let London.

Have you enjoyed London at Christmas time? Do you recommend any other Christmas events in the capital?
