Milton Mini Portable Soother Steriliser review

Even though we never intended for it to happen little man uses soothers.  As such I have experienced on numerous occasions the inevitable soother ending up on the floor, getting dirty when out and about with no way of cleaning said soother let alone sterilising it.  Having a dirty soother can be inconvenient and with no way of sterilising the soother it is not free from germs and hygienic for babies and if you attempt to ‘clean’ the soother by popping it into your mouth harmful infections and germs can be passed to baby.  The problem of having a dirty soother and no way of sterilising it when out and about and your baby is screaming for the soother is something many parents have experienced.  So when I was given the opportunity to test out a new product for this exact problem I jumped at the chance to see if it really could solve this very annoying problem.

Renowned for their sterilising products, Milton has created a brand new product with mum in mind for cleaning and sterilising on the go.  The Mini Portable Soother Steriliser by Milton has been designed and created to allow parents to sterilise soothers in only 15 minutes in an easy and practical way when out and about.  The Mini compliments Milton’s extensive range of sterilising and hygiene products, having been developed to provide parents with the peace of mind that their babies are protected from nasty germs.  The Mini uses Milton’s trusted sterilising formula in a unique design that incorporates innovative sponges.  The sterilising solution is effective against tough bacteria including E-coli, Listeria, Salmonella, Campylobacter, MRSA and Clostridium difficile, Fungi such as Candida Albicans and viruses such as Rotavirus and active on the H1N1 virus that causes influenza including Swine Flu.

The Milton Mini Portable Soother Steriliser comes with the Mini, a carry strap, instructions and 10 sterilising tablets.  The instructions are very easy to follow and the process of sterilising a soother is so simple that you can easily remember how to use the Mini again and again.

To use the Mini to sterilise a soother in just 15 minutes you simply –

* Fill the Mini with water up to the line
* Add a sterilising tablet to the water and let it dissolve
* Put the sponges into the Mini – solid sponge first and then the sponge with the hole
* Pop in the soother, placing it in the hole in the sponge and twist the soother twice to clean the teat
* Screw on the Mini’s lid
* After 15 minutes the soother is sterile and ready to use (there is no need to rinse the soother as Milton’s sterilising solution is safe for babies)

I love the fact that the unique sponges help remove dirt from the soother’s teat and they absorb the sterilising solution which means there’s no risk of spills.  Another great bonus is that there is no need to change the sterilising solution and use a sterilising tablet every time you need to sterilise a soother as the solution can be used more than once during 24 hours.  I think it’s great that the Mini stays sterile and reusable for 24 hours making it perfect for long days out and long journeys as it provides parents with a handy way sterilising the numerous soothers that will inevitably get dirty throughout a long day.  I also like the fact that it is BPA free.

I love the lightweight and compact Mini’s Velcro strap as it enables you to attach the Mini to practically anything, changing bag pushchair frame, and car-seat etc. which means the Mini will be to hand when needed.  When going out I always have to have a few soothers in my changing bag for when the one that little man has ends up dirty but with the Mini I no longer have to carry a bundle of soothers as it allows me to just have 1 in the Mini; clean, sterile and ready for action!  When the sterile soother is called into action the dirty one replaces it and gets popped into the Mini for some superb Milton sterilising.  By using the Mini I also no longer have to rummage in my changing bag looking for a soother as I know exactly where a sterile one is, sitting snuggly in the Mini that hangs from my bag.

I love this product and the fact that when a soother gets dirty when out and about that you can simply pop the soother into the Mini and the little ball with its solution with sterilise the soother in just 15 minutes leaving the soother clean and germ free with a fresh, clean smell.  This fab little Mini is a superb, innovative product that is stylish yet practical. The Mini is a brilliant solution for dirty soothers making parents lives a little easier and I believe it makes for an integral part of a sterilising routine, providing reassurance that babies are using a sterile soother keeping them protected from nasty germs.

The Milton Mini retails for £6.99 and is available in 3 different colours; purple, blue and green (I love the apple fresh green colour).  It can be bought in numerous places including baby retailers and a list of stockists can be found on Milton’s website.  Milton’s sterilising tablets for the Mini are available in packs of 50 for £2.99.  I think the Mini and the additional sterilising tablets are great value for money for an effective product that keeps babies safe from nasty germs.

* Milton kindly sent us this Mini to review for free; despite this I have written an honest review that contains my own words and opinions *

  3. I love the look of this. Isn't it funny, before we have children of our own we think that soothers are a cop out, but then once baby arrives it's amazing how quickly our attitude changes :-)
