BBC Music The Biggest Weekend

Being a proud welsh woman I love to support and champion all that Wales has to offer. Majestic natural wonders and beautiful sights are abundant throughout our country. Amazing attractions offer fun, adventures and fantastic days out. Historic monuments adorn our scenery. Incredible events hosted in Wales wonder and delight.

I love that more and more events are being hosted in Wales with a few of our recent favourites being the magical Disney On Ice show and the breathtaking Monster Jam show. One big event coming up in South West Wales that I think is also awesome is BBC Music’s Biggest Weekend!

One of the reasons I wanted to write about it is that it has evoked some fond memories from my early teenage years when my mum took my sister, myself and a friend to BBC Radio 1’s One Big Sunday 2002 in Swansea where we saw Will Young and Destiny’s Child perform.

Another reason why I think BBC’s Biggest Weekend is an amazing event is that it is very reasonable and affordable. Many huge names from the music industry take part in the Biggest Weekend and fans can experience watching them without having to break the bank.

The beauty of this festival is that there are an array of musical artists and bands in the line-up with the event taking place over 4 locations in 4 nations - Swansea, Belfast, Perth and Coventry. Different genres and musical styles will all be showcased in this unique, one-off festival where live music is celebrated!

Whilst I am most delighted that a location close to us was selected and that Wales is going to be part of this memorable event I think it is amazing that the festivals are taking place over 4 nations.

BBC Music’s Biggest Weekend will take place right across the May Spring Bank Holiday from Friday 25th until Monday 28th May 2018.

Belfast, Northen Ireland - Titanic Slipways
Friday 25th May and Saturday 26th May

Perth, Scotland - Scone Palace
Friday 25th May and Saturday 26th May

Swansea | Abertawe, Wales - Singleton Park
Saturday 26th May and Sunday 27th May

Coventry , England - War Memorial Park
Sunday 27th May and Monday 28th May

Whilst I am sure there are many disappointed fans who did not manage to get a ticket to the sold out Biggest Weekend thankfully the concerts will be hosted by BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, and BBC Radio 6 Music, plus extensive TV coverage across BBC Two and BBC Four. Sets will be available on BBC iPlayer, mobile and online. So even if you can’t be there in person you can be there in spirit and enjoy the music in other ways.

As I wanted to shout from the rooftops about Swansea being selected to host this unique Biggest Weekend festival at the iconic Singleton Park here is the line up of the amazing music artists that will perform at Swansea this coming weekend. So many amazing names all in one place!

Plus there are also a number of artists featuring on the BBC Music introducing stage.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Major Projects, said: "We knew that securing this event for Swansea would be a massive coup but the reaction we have had since it was revealed that Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran would be playing has been overwhelming.
"It's going to be a great boost for local businesses because of the extra spending it will generate in our shops, restaurants, local accommodation, taxis, transport providers and others."

* I have not received anything for writing this post, I simply love live music and events in Wales and wanted to share the exciting news of The Biggest Weekend happening in Swansea this bank holiday weekend.
