G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout game review

GIFTED

Yo Joe! G.I. Joe comes to consoles with the new game G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout

G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout, the new team-based third-person shooter inspired by Hasbro’s hit franchise is out now on Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

Play as both Team Joe and Team Cobra in this action-packed adventure featuring a co-op story campaign and PvP multiplayer.

Experience an original story inspired by classic 80s-style comics, over 17 campaign missions featuring epic locations like the U.S.S. Flagg and Cobra Headquarters, intense boss battles, and iconic vehicles like the Joes’ Persuader and Cobra H.I.S.S. tanks.

Play the campaign on your own or with a friend in local split-screen co-op. Then keep the fight going in four-player local PvP multiplayer modes like Capture the Flag, Assault, King of The Hill and Deathmatch Arena.

Play as your favorite heroes and villains from both sides with 12 playable characters, including Duke, Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, Destro, Roadblock, Storm Shadow and more.

Unleash a wide variety of 18 awesome weapons, 36 incredible skins, and a series of uniquely devastating ultimate abilities as you mastermind world domination as Team Cobra and restore world order as Team Joe!

G.I. Joe A real American hero

It is wonderful to get a licence game of an iconic and loved franchise that evokes nostalgia and memories of playing with G.I. Joe action figures from the 80s and 90s and watching the animated series.

The game is vibrant and the soldiers are designed with a great action figure style which along with the monumental locations and iconic vehicles gives the game a brilliant battle, adventure action hero vibe that complements the G.I. Joe franchise. The voice acting of over 20 characters from the G.I. Joe universe adds to the action.

During cut scenes the graphics are in a comic book style which complements the game and respects franchise.

The third-person action game is fun to play with the team-based approach where you can switch between characters in the midst of battle making the game action packed.

The fact that each soldier has their own unique powers and can be customized with a variety of weapons and skins is great and makes the game more enjoyable to play.

Hail Cobra!

Making the game more alluring and amusing, not only can you play as the heroic Team Joe soldiers but you can also play as Team Cobra, including the renowned nemesis Cobra Commander. It is great fun to play as both the heroes and the villains.

Plenty of play

We love that there are lots of ways to play from playing the campaign story mode alone or with a friend in co-op mode to playing the 4 player PvP multiplayer modes.

The fact that the different characters have their own powers is great and the variety of weapons makes the game enjoyable to play.

We especially love the fact that you can take control of the legendary G.I. Joe Persuader and Cobra H.I.S.S. tanks in your battle across classic locations like the USS Flagg and Cobra Headquarters.

Whilst the licensed game is B-tier it is a decent action, third person shooter that not only provides nostalgia for the popular, old franchise but also nostalgia for licensed action games from the previous generation of consoles.

Knowing is half the battle

The game is easy to play and a tutorial helps gamers get into the game battle ready.

The game is lighthearted, easy to play and enjoy entertainment that injects a splash of nostalgia. Not only have we enjoyed the memories that the game has sparked but we have also loved sharing iconic G.I. Joe characters, locations and vehicles with our eldest boy who has enjoyed playing the game with G.I. Joe fan dad. The game has reinforced a childhood love for G.I. Joe and introduced the franchise to a new generation.

G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout is out now on Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One and will cost you £34.99 for the Standard Edition. It is also available as a Digital Deluxe edition for £39.99 on the Playstation 4 and £44.99 on the Xbox One. The Digital Deluxe edition includes -
