Teething can be a difficult time for both baby and parents, as a parent all you want to do is take away the discomfort and it can be so difficult seeing your little one crying and chomping on anything they can get their hands on. Most parents can empathise with wanting to try anything to help their little ones during teething and will have tried numerous different teething gels, products and teethers.
The Tommee Tippee Explora Puzzle Teether is described as a fun, colourful and robust teether. It is a combination of a teether to help soothe gums by being chewed on and a rattling toy that twists into different shapes with rings and beads to distract baby from teething pains. As Tommee Tippee states baby can bite, twist, turn and chew.
The teether is very colourful, with each segment a different colour, one of which is in high contrasting black and white that attracts even young babies attention. 6 interlocking semi-circles made out of plastic make up the teether, 3 of which are opaque and the other 3 hollow, hard semi-transparent plastic. The opaque, solid coloured semi-circles have contrasting colours of rubber rings on them ideal for chewing on. The other 3 semi-circles each have 3 small balls inside that roll around as the teether is shaken creating a pleasant sound for baby. Also there are 3 plastic rings on the teether that can be moved around, chewed on or when the teether is shaken they make a rattle sound. What attracted me to this teether is how it can be twisted into different shapes, as you can move and rotate the different sections.
I bought this before Tristan was born not for its qualities as a teether but because it looked different to others I had seen, very interesting and I thought it would entertain.
For months it has been one of his favourite toys but it is only recently that he has started using it as a teether and been chewing on it, before it was a little bit too big for his mouth and he used to just play with it. It is supposed to be suitable from birth but it was too big and heavy for Tristan to hold when he was very young. I found though he liked it when I would rattle it and it has always come in handy to distract him. Numerous times when he has been crying a little rattle would get his attention and stop his cries, I always make sure I take it with me when we go out. When he was about 3 months he started taking a more hands on interest in it and from 4 months he has had no problem holding it himself. He loves rattling it, twisting it and making different shapes, watching the balls and rings move about. It amuses and entertains him.
As I write this Tristan is 5 months old and teething, he is a happy, cheeky little monkey and it is heart wrenching seeing him crying in discomfort, chewing on anything he can get his chubby hands in an effort to ease his discomfort. He can now chew on it with ease and if he isn’t playing with it he is chewing on it, and it’s just the right size for his mouth. So far it seems to help with his discomfort.
It is a multi-purpose teether/toy that stimulates a baby’s visual, tactile and auditory senses and satisfies a need to chew. It’s great as its complex enough to help develop and stimulate important skills as it encourages and reward’s gross and fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. It’s fun and soothes gums all for a great price. I highly recommend the Tommee Tippee Explora Puzzle Teether.
