Organics for Kids Romper Review from Scamps and Scallywags

In addition to sending us the Bambu weaning bowl and spoons to review (see the review here) the lovely Jane from Scamps and Scallywags also sent us an Organics for Kids romper to test.

Scamps and Scallywags is a funky company who sell eye catching clothes, cute toys, gorgeous gifts and items that you won’t find on the high street.  Their mission is to provide customers with organic and ethically produced products for babies and toddlers that are fun and funky, providing style and individuality whilst also being practical and durable.  Their range of products includes items from Organics for Kids who produce organic clothing for little ones.  To see more information about Scamps and Scallywags see the post I wrote about them when I stumbled across their great website.  Scamps and Scallywags have a facebook page and can be found on twitter @funkyscamps.  Join them to keep up-to-date with Scamps and Scallywags’ news and offers.

We were sent the Organics for Kids Organic Cotton Romper Spotty Taupe to review.  This romper is made in England using 100% fairly traded organic cotton.  Organics for Kids ensure that the clothes they make are ethically made.  The dyes used in making the print on the romper are non-toxic and safe for your little one.
Contrasting cuffs

The romper came wrapped in a lovely green tissue paper with Scamps and Scallywags cute little logo stickers holding the package together.  I opened the package to unveil a gorgeous taupe coloured romper with white bold spot print.  I immediately loved the colour of the romper and I think the taupe colour is great for both girls and boys, the colour has a lovely depth to it and I think it is definitely more interesting than yellow unisex colours or boring browns for boys.  This kimono-style romper has been designed with contrasting cuffs at the feet that have slim stripes on them and the addition of this clever design means that the cuffs can be kept closed when babies are small to keep their feet warm but can also be unfolded as babies grow.

Tootsies can be covered or uncovered with the clever cuff design
The romper is very soft and the fabric feels like a high quality textile.  It is beautifully designed and well made.  Tristan is always very comfortable when wearing this romper especially when crawling about and I love knowing that not only does he look cute in the romper but as it made from organic cotton it is also kind to his skin.  I think Tristan looks very cute wearing this romper and Lee really likes the look and design.  We were sent the 6-12months romper and it fits Tristan very well with plenty of growing room however due to his length the feet cuffs don’t cover his feet comfortably as he is a tad too tall but I think it is a brilliant idea that these are included within the design as a baby’s feet can be covered to keep warm and then when the baby has grown and is too long can be unfolded so that the romper can still be worn.  I love this little feature as many of Tristan’s sleepsuits can no longer be worn as he is too tall for them but they still fit him perfectly otherwise but with this romper this is not a problem and it can still be worn for a long time.

I think that the kimono-style could annoy some parents as compared to other rompers/sleepsuits that have poppers down both legs this style could be more difficult to contend with during nappy changes, however personally I don’t have a problem with this…..Tristan wriggles during nappy changes regardless of what he is wearing and I get on really well with this style and find it easy to put on and take off.  I actually like that the style is unusual as it is eye-catching and the cute and stylish design makes him stand out from the crowd.  This romper is machine washable and it washes really well and I have found when I have hung it to dry by the fire it dries very quickly; it is still extremely soft and still looks like new.  The romper costs £17.90 which is a tad expensive but you are getting a high quality romper and I think the fact that it is made from organic cotton warrants paying that little bit extra.

I would highly recommend this Organics for Kids romper and I think it would make a lovely gift.  I love the quirky kimono-style, it is a high quality item of baby clothing and I love that it is ethically made from fairly traded organic cotton which not only is good for your little ones skin but is also kind to the environment and the cotton farmers, as Organics for Kids say -  “do the world a favour – buy organic.”

A little bit about Organics for Kids –

Organics for Kids is a small company based in the UK; they are passionate about their company and producing high quality, beautiful organic baby clothes made exclusively with fairly traded textiles.  They are passionate about supporting the local textile sector and since they founded the company they have worked with a factory in Nottingham who is approved to make their clothes by the Soil Association.  The close relationship with the factory enables them to have excellent quality control and confidence in knowing the conditions of where their clothing range is manufactured.  The believe by working with companies and people who are local and share the same values that they create a stunning, locally conceived and made collection of ethically made organic baby clothes.  Organics for Kids is the winner of the Best Organic Textile Product 2011 of the Natural and Organic Awards in association with the Soil Association.

They made their clothes using certified organic cotton which they currently source from two organic cotton suppliers who they work very closely with.  They are confident that the cotton that they use is fairly traded which means that the cotton farmers are not exploited and are paid a sensible and normally premium price for their cotton.  When available they also use fairtrade organic cotton.

Organics for Kids has for a second year been awarded with Soil Association certification that certifies the cotton they use to be organic and ensures that their supply chain meets the criteria of the Ethical Trading Initiative.  The cotton they use is also certified by the internationally recognised body Control Union who ensure that the cotton is grown organically and processed in an environmentally friendly and responsible way.  In addition all of Organics for Kids clothing adheres to Global Organic Textile Standards.  The dyes that are used on their fabrics do not contain harmful substances and meet the Oeko-tex 100 standard.

Further details about Organics for Kids and their complete range of products can be found on their website.  They also have a facebook page and can be followed on twitter @Organics4Kids.
