Since becoming
a parent I find news of missing children more heart-breaking than ever. Personally when I hear news of a missing
child my only concern is the missing child.
I offer my support by spreading the news.
I have
decided to take part in the #blogging4madeleine campaign this year to not only write
about missing Madeleine McCann but to also highlight the fact that there are
thousands of children missing in the UK with at least hundreds of thousands of
children missing across the whole World.
Madeleine was
3 years old when she went missing from Praia da Luz, Portugal on Thursday 3rd May
2007.
6 years on
Madeleine is still missing.
Today the 12th
May 2013 is Madeleine’s 10th birthday.
Shockingly
in the UK a child is reported missing every 3 minutes!
It is not
just Madeleine who is missing.
Another high
profile case is the missing case of Ben Needham, a 21 month old British toddler
who went missing on the Greek island of Kos in July 1991.
There are
many (too many) other high profile missing children cases and thousands of missing
children who are not in the spotlight but who are also missing. We need to remember about and hope for the
hundreds of thousands of children who appear to have vanished. We need to keep missing children in the
spotlight, continue to search and hold on to hope.
