Chill Factor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker review.

At the beginning of the summer when I got asked if I would like to review a slushy maker I jumped at the chance thinking it would be very handy to have for summer especially if we were lucky to get a hot summer.  Unfortunately due to delivery problems and missing parcels we only received our review item at the beginning of the month…..just in time for the cold weather.  Even though it has gotten colder after weeks of waiting to test the slushy maker and reading lots of other reviews on other blogs I was excited about finally getting to try it out and attempt to make a slushy myself using the Chill Factor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker.

“Chill Factor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker is a unique slushy maker which allows you to make delicious slushies in seconds!  No ice, no blenders, no mess!  It’s so easy to use – all you have do is put in the freezer, wait to free then add your preferred chilled drink and squeeze!  Right before your eyes you will see slushy appear in seconds!”

When I heard about the Chill Factor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker I was sceptical about whether it would work and thought that it would be one of those gadgets that make amazing claims but never quite work, assuming there was no way I could make a slushy by simply freezing a cup and then squeezing it once I had filled it with a chilled drink.

Like an excited child at Christmas when the long awaited parcel finally arrived I could not wait to get it open and have a little play.

The Chill Factor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker consists of a double layer silicone cup that holds 160-230ml volume of liquid; the outer cup is a made of soft silicon and the inner cup is a transparent cup with sections filled with liquid that is similar in appearance to ice packs.  The cup also comes with a screw lid and a spoon-straw.

Reading the easy to follow instruction leaflet which details how to make a slushy as well as how to take the cup apart for cleaning (hand-wash only) and how to put it back together again for use, I attempted to make a slushy.

To make a slushy –
*  Place the cup without the lid into the freezer for 4-6 hours or until the walls of the inside cup is frozen
*  Once frozen fill the cup with a chilled drink of your choice
*  Screw on the lid and squeeze the cup until you have a slushy drink

After freezing the cup overnight I filled it with chilled orange juice and after screwing the lid on I started squeezing the cup…..within seconds I was surprised to see chips of ice forming in the orange juice and within a minute or so the cup was filled with orange juice slush.

Bug loved slurping up and munching on the slush with the spoon-straw.  He loves slushies and since we have had the cup he has asked for a slush nearly every day….when he sees his special cup his eyes glint with joy, excited about having another slush to devour.

Exclaiming ‘wow’ when helping mummy squeeze the special cup to make a slushy Bug is ecstatic, thinking his special cup is magic.

I love that using this fun, ingenious gadget I can make refreshing and cooling slushies at home, controlling what goes into them so that instead of sugar laden slushies filled with additivies and colourings I can make slushies using 100% fruit juice for Bug to enjoy.  I also love how easy and mess free it is to make a slushy using this cup.  When Bug is teething he enjoys ice lollies to help with the pain and I am sure munching on a slushy will also provide him with a cooling relief when his teeth are causing him trouble.

As well as being able to make a slushy using fruit juice you can use any drink to make a slushy as long as it has been chilled in the refrigerator, room temperature drinks won’t work so I would suggest popping your selected drink into the fridge at the same time as you put the cup in the freezer.  I was surprised to learn that you can make a slushy using a dairy drink, the only thing you have to remember if using a dairy drink is to place the filled cup back into the freezer for 3-4 minutes otherwise it won’t slush.  The Chill Factor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker is not just for children, big kids can also enjoy a refreshing slush and if you fancy a cooling alcoholic treat I have heard that you can make cocktail slushies….being a tea-totaller I haven’t tried a cocktail myself but it does sound yummy.

The Chill Factor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker is a very clever invention that makes yummy slushes.  Since it arrived we have been constantly refreezing it to make more slushies and I would highly recommend Chill Factor’s patented handheld squeezable cup which has a dedicated spot in the freezer so that it is ready and waiting for when the urge to have a cooling slush hits one of us.

The Chill Factor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker is available from Character Online, Amazon, Argos and Tesco plus other major retailers and it has an RRP of £12.99.  The cup is available in 4 bright colours; yellow, red, blue and green.
