PAW Patrol®: Grand Prix game review

GIFTED

Get ready for PAW-sitively thrilling races in this

brand-new paw-some kart racer starring the PAW Patrol pups!

Outright Games, one of the leading global publishers of family friendly interactive entertainment, in affiliation with Paramount Consumer Products, Nickelodeon and Spin Master Ltd., a leading global children’s toy and entertainment company and the creators of PAW Patrol, have released PAW Patrol: Grand Prix

Developed by 3D Clouds, this first-ever kart racer and four player PAW Patrol video game will give players the opportunity to dash around their favourite locations from the smash hit TV show in a bid to win the Pup Cup.

PAW Patrol: Grand Prix is available now on PlayStation 4®, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch™, Xbox One, Xbox X|S and Steam.

Join Ryder, Chase, and the rest of the PAW Patrol on their fastest mission yet--to win the Pup Cup! Players will be able to speed their way around a number of tracks in Adventure Bay, Jake’s Snowboarding Resort, and the Jungle to find out who’s the quickest racer of them all. But watch out for Mayor Humdinger, he could be just around the corner in his blimp to cause all kinds of mayhem on the track!

As well as being the first ever PAW Patrol game kart racer, PAW Patrol: Grand Prix is the first PAW Patrol multiplayer video game that allows up to 4-players at once, letting the whole family play together via split screen.

Race to become a champion using power ups and boosts like water balloons, snowballs and confetti blasts. More experienced track stars will be able to play on hard mode, while younger players can use easy control options with auto-acceleration to guide them to the finish line.

PAW Patrol: Grand Prix is based on PAW Patrol, the award-winning hit animated preschool series that follows the adventures of a tech-savvy boy named Ryder and his team of pups who are ready to save the day. One of the most popular kids’ shows in the world, its success has turned the franchise into a true global phenomenon.

PAW Patrol will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year, and will release the new animated feature film, PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie™. This will be the second film in the franchise, following the global success of last year’s PAW Patrol: The Movie™, produced by Spin Master Entertainment in association with Nickelodeon Movies and distributed by Paramount Pictures. PAW Patrol: The Movie ranked #1 in 25 countries, making over $140M at the global box office. It remains a smash hit on Paramount’s streaming platform, Paramount+.

Terry Malham, CEO of Outright Games, said:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to get PAW Patrol: Grand Prix into players’ hands today. It’s been a delight working again with Nickelodeon to bring our fourth PAW Patrol game to fans’ screens. We're so excited to be able to offer such an exciting racing game, especially one where families can all play together, regardless of age or experience. We’ll see you on the track!”

Paw Patrol: Grand Prix…..on your marks, get set, go!! Race gameplay.

Paw Patrol: Grand Prix is simple fun the whole family can enjoy.

The style is synonymous with previous Paw Patrol games - Paw Patrol: On a Roll and Paw Patrol: Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay - with the look being bright and colourful. Like previous games the characters of the hit show and films are brought to life in the game, being accurate and recognisable for young Paw Patrol fans to enjoy. Similarly the game is designed to be easy for young gamers to be able to play.

This game however offers a fun new adventure for Paw Patrol fans, as they get to buckle up and hit the road for revving races in iconic Paw Patrol vehicles.

Also for the first time in Paw Patrol gaming history, gamers can play in multiplayer mode with the game allowing up to 4 players to race together. This mode is great fun and encourages the whole family to game together for lots of fun as well as introducing younger members of the family to gaming through a fun, easy game with characters they can recognise.

My little Paw Patrol fan loved that the game has characters from Paw Patrol (10 in total - 3 of which need to be unlocked) and that they look like the show. He is over the moon that he can race as Chase in his Police vehicle, speed around as Rubble in his digger and save the day, winning races as Marshall in his fire truck.

Helping gamers of all ages and abilities enjoy this family-friendly game, the game offers different difficulty levels of easy, medium and hard. It is also very helpful for children new to gaming that the game has a setting for auto-acceleration.

There are seventeen tracks families can race on in the Adventure Mode of Paw Patrol Grand Prix. The tracks are in Adventure Bay, The Jungle and Jake Snowboarding Resort with locations varying from snowy, ice-tastic lands to jungle islands to cityscapes. The different locations are colourful and eye-catching for young gamers, offering a choice and variety for races.

As fans are racing their favourite Paw Patrol characters/vehicles the pups shout out, with them even saying iconic phrases from the show such as Rubble saying “Rubble on the double”. The pups speaking makes the game more interactive and fun for little gamers, and provides encouragement. Being inclusive for gamers of different ages and abilities not only does the words from the pups pop up on the screen but for non-readers it is also spoken too.

The game has an adventure mode where you race with a pup for the whole adventure until it’s finished. When you first play the game the characters you can choose from include Ryder, Chase, Marshall, Rubble, Rocky, Zumba and Skye. Other characters can be unlocked by playing the game. Playing adventure mode allows you to unlock bonuses such as hats, skins, turbo sparkles and pup trophies. Having bonuses to achieve provides fun and a challenge.

As well as adventure mode, racers can play instant races or custom races. When playing custom races, gamers can select the tracks and whether they want to race on the track during the day or night.

The characters all have a different character skill such as Skye’s Propeller skill to take flight on the track, Zuma’s Water Slide to make the other racers slip, Chase’s Slowing Siren to slow the other opponents down and Ryder’s Invincible Shield to protect him and pushes away others, which gamers can utilise to help them win the race. As gamers race around the track they can collect doggy bone treats and fill the treats bar. Once the treat bar is full racers can use the pup skill to help them speed into first place.

As the pups race around the vibrant tracks they can unlock items that can help them to the finish line first. Racing through the Paw Patrol logo badges found along the track will see the racer awarded with a random item such as tornadoes, pies, and speed boosting wheels, that will speed up the racer or slow down the other racers. Littlest loves the comic mischief some of these items create, finding it funny to throw a pie on the road for other racers to slip in!

Paw Patrol fans get ready, set, go!! Race on the Paw Patrol Grand Prix tracks and be crowned the best racer pup.

PAW Patrol: Grand Prix is available right now on PlayStation 4®, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch™, Xbox One, Xbox X|S and Steam.
