Reasons to switch to LED lighting

#Collaborative post

One home feature that has a big impact on the look and feel of a room is lighting. Similar to how the colours, textures, fixtures, fittings, furniture and accessories in a room can change the style and feel of a room, the amount and types of lighting in a room can drastically change the room.

The lighting fixture that you choose not only provides functionality by lighting up a room but it is also a feature in it’s own right. The style of the lighting fixture helps create the room’s look - a minimalistic fixture can help create a modern, minimalist style or an ornate lamp with stained glass can be a statement piece and work well in a traditional or shabby chic styled room.

The type of light fitting also matters. In fact the lights in a room can impact on the feel of a room. A room with plenty of lights or bright lights can make a room feel bright and fresh or too cold and stark whilst a room with minimal lights can create either a cosy atmosphere or make the room feel dark and dingy.

When thinking about a room’s lighting one of the decisions you have to make is what type of lighting do you want. There are a number of options available on the market with one popular option being LED lighting.

In recent years, thanks to improved technology and the ban of incandescent bulbs followed by a ban on halogen bulbs the popularity of LED bulbs has increased with plenty of LED suppliers in the UK available to source the perfect LED lighting for your home.

Benefits of LED lighting in the home

Whilst LED has been around for over 50 years due to recent developments and improved technology in the field of LED bulbs along with a demand for efficient lighting, LED lighting within the home has garnered increased popularity.

With traditional incandescent bulbs, halogen bulbs and LED bulbs as available options on the market for lighting within the home it can be difficult to know what lighting and bulbs are best for you and your home.

2017 Lighting trends

Every new year sees a new set of trends. As the year rolls on and seasons come and go, styles and popular trends also come and go. From fashion to interiors to gadgets, trends can have a huge impact on what we see in the shops and the way we style ourselves and our homes along with the purchases we make.

Lighting is no exception. As we welcome in a new year, we also see new lighting trends that inspire to transform lighting and the style of our homes. As with most trends there are a few classic styles that never seem to go out of fashion, styles that are so brand new and innovative they are a breath of fresh air, and trends that come and go every few years.

When it comes to any trends it is worthwhile bearing in mind personal taste and whether the style works well in your home and if it fits in comfortably with the rest of your home style. There is no point keeping up with the Jones’ if you go all out on all the must-have trends and overshadow your own sense of style and taste.

Incorporating current trends into your home can work well when you combine styles whilst keeping in mind your own tastes. For example when looking at lighting the trend of Industrial lighting it works well with a rustic or minimalist home decor style. Likewise Vintage and Ornate lighting pairs well with a Shabby Chic or Luxury home decor style.

Snowman Christmas Decoration review with PK Green Shop.

One of the things I love most about Christmas is all the sparkle and twinkle of Christmas lights and decorations. Now that I have my own little family I love decorating the house even more than before, making it extra Christmassy and fun for my little ones.

As I love fun Christmas decorations and lights I was delighted when PK Green Shop sent us one of their LED festive decorations from their Christmas range.

PK Green Shop - LED Cube Lamp review.

As I’ve mentioned before we have slowly been revamping Bug’s bedroom and as lighting can really change the atmosphere within a room we jumped at the chance of getting a lamp for him from PK Green Shop.

We chose a 10cm rechargeable LED cube lamp to sit on Bug’s bedside table to be a night light for him during the night.

The cube lamp has a rechargeable battery built in to power the cube, which lasts up to 10 hours when fully charged depending on which light setting is used.

To charge the lamp you can either use the provided mains adapter or connect it your PC using the provided USB cable. To fully charge it takes 3-5 hours.

To turn the lamp on and off you simply press the hidden button on the base of the lamp. The cube shines a variety of colours – red, blue, green, purple, pink, white and yellow. You can either have the light shining as a fixed colour or have it continuously changing colour. To change the colour mode from either a fixed colour of your choice or automatic changing colour you simply press the button on the base.

The cube lamp is extremely well made; it feels durable and looks to be of a premium build quality. As they are confident in the quality of the lamp, PK Green Shop provide a lifetime guarantee.

Bug loves his cube light and insists on having on each night as he settles down to sleep in bed.

He loves choosing what colour to have it on, having a different colour each night or having it change colours continuously.

The gradually colour changing LED sequence is very relaxing and I have often admired Bug lying in bed gazing at the lamp as the light slowly blends from one colour to another which seems to have a calming effect on him as he dozes off to sleep.

The cube lamp’s light gives off a lovely and surprisingly bright glow.

I love that thanks to its built-in rechargeable battery there are no messy or hazardous wires so it can be put anywhere.

As we are using the cube lamp in our child’s bedroom I appreciate is that is built with soft contours.

I also love the fact that as it is a heatless LED lamp it is completely safe and cool to touch which is a reassuring safety measure with it being used in a child’s bedroom.

The PK Green cube lamp is great as a night light and would also be great for creating an atmosphere elsewhere in the house or during parties.

The 10cm cube lamp is available on the PK Green Cube website for the great price of £24.99.

The cube lamp is also available in other sizes – 10cm, 20cm and 40cm.

PK Green Cube have a vast range of other lights available including heart and star shaped lights and cat, dog and bear night lights.

My Shining Light.

Goodnight my love, my shining light
Sleep well, sleep tight
Have sweet dreams tonight
As the stars above twinkle bright
I dim the lights and kiss you goodnight
Leaving your night light to shine on you tonight
Guarding you from the darkness so you don’t have a fright
Your beautiful face lit by the soft light

In my darkest days you a bright shining light
Glowing and twinkling with all your might
Your love and happiness making everything right
Goodnight my love, my shining light

BHS Lighting - We Love the Dark.

During winter when the nights are dark early there is nothing more I love than snuggling on the sofa with a few selected lamps turned on so that the light that emanates from them helps create a cosy atmosphere.

I find it amazing the effect lights can have on a room; they can help change the atmosphere, create a striking feature, be the finishing touches to a styled and themed room and help highlight key features of a room.

Realising the important role lighting has BHS have created a video where a range of dazzling and twinkling lights are the stars of the show and get to shine.  Highlighting just a few of the lights from BHS’s range of over 500 lights the adorably cute video sees a variety of lights from BHS coming to life  in the darkness that they love.
