During pregnancy
as your baby grows and your bump expands your skin is stretched to accommodate
the ever growing bump that holds your precious baby. For many women during pregnancy as their skin
is stretched stretch marks are formed. Even
though stretch marks can form on other people other than pregnant women, i.e.
people who put on or lose weight and teenagers going through puberty, the
hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy affects your skin and can make it
more likely that stretch marks appear. Before
getting pregnant I already had a host of stretch marks adorning my body from
puberty and as my pregnancy progressed I noticed that I got a few more to add
to my collection and they were a lot more visible than my old ones which are
very faint. Whilst pregnant I never
bought a cream or oil for my stretch marks. Following my review of the Weleda Baby Tummy Oil, Weleda offered one of their
oils for my pregnant friend to try. I was keen to see how effective it was and
to see if it would be worth me using when I am pregnant again.
The Weleda Stretch Mark Massage Oil according to Weleda helps prevent pregnancy stretch
marks and “has been developed in conjunction with doctors and midwives to
provide comfort and skin care for mum before, during and after pregnancy”. According to Weleda the oil is a “pure,
natural formula that nourishes and helps visibly smooth the skin” and the “base
of sweet almond oil works gently delivering intensely moisturizing essential
fatty acids that keep your skin supple and protected from drying”. Weleda says that “nourishing wheat germ oil
conditions and refines your skin’s texture and a high quantity of vitamins A, D
and E. Regular use visibly helps to
correct the appearance of stretch marks on your pregnant belly; your thighs,
bottom and breasts; and helps prevent the appearance of new ones”. The gentle oil can be used 2 to 3 times daily
from the beginning of pregnancy until the end of the breastfeeding period and “through
regular massage, this oil formulated with gentle Almond oil and extract from
organic Arnica helps prevent the appearance of pregnancy stretch marks by improving
skin’s elasticity and tightness”.
My friend
Miss B (who previously tested the Lillipops Iced Soothies for my review) offered to
try the Weleda Stretch Mark Massage Oil for this review. Miss B is currently 32 weeks pregnant, since
being pregnant and her bump growing she has developed a few stretch marks. She has been using this oil for a few weeks
now and has been religiously massaging it gently on her bump, thighs and
breasts morning and night.
The oil
comes in a green glass bottle with a light pink/peach label; the bottle has a
screw cap with an internal dropper which is great as it prevents pouring out
too much oil. The oil blend contains
jojoba oil which gives the oil a light, subtle beautiful scent which is not
overpowering. The oil has a silky
consistency and even though the oil is quite runny it absorbs quickly into the
skin leaving your skin feeling smooth.
Since using
the oil Miss B has noticed that the stretch marks she previously had now look
less noticeable and are now very faint, light stretch marks. Whilst using the oil she has had no new
stretch marks but we are both unsure that the oil will 100% prevent any new
stretch marks from forming but from Miss B’s use of the oil we both think that
any new stretch marks will remain faint and not obvious if this oil is used
regularly.
She has
found that indulging herself with a soothing massage has been very relaxing especially
when her partner gives her the gentle, relaxing massage. The oil has left her skin smooth and looking
healthy with the nutrient rich oil providing intensive hydration and nourishment
with the arnica flower extract easing the tightness from her ever expanding
bump as her skin stretches as her bump grows.
Miss B
would recommend this oil; it is great for lessening the appearance of stretch
marks and nourishing your skin leaving it smooth and healthy. She thinks that using the oil regularly is
great as it means that you get a little relaxing massage. We both think it brilliant that the oil is
nutrient rich and that arnica has natural anti-inflammatory properties. When I am pregnant again I will definitely use
this oil.

I used Palmers cocoa butter throughout my pregnancy and for a long while after and I found that did the trick for me. I have to be careful what I use on my skin though due to eczema. x
ReplyDeleteI used Bio Oil which was very nice. Worked to some degree. I love Weleda products though.
