Over the past decade or
so reality TV has become increasingly more popular. Now reality TV is
a steadfast sight on TV channel schedules. You don’t have to look
far to find a reality TV show to watch where you can view people
dealing with certain situations or challenges, or follow the
‘characters’ of the show as they go about their ‘reality life’.
With so many reality shows hitting our screens every year covering a
whole host of genres and reality situations such as Big Brother,
TOWIE, Hell’s Kitchen, and the X Factor to name but a few there is
plenty of choice out there for people to get their fix of reality TV.
Whilst I can’t say
they are my favourite type of TV show, I must admit reality TV can be
a guilty pleasure and something ‘easy’ to watch when you just
want to relax and unwind. Over the years I’ve watched my fair bit
of reality TV with my interest in it being first sparked by Big
Brother back in the day when Davina was host of the show. Since then
I’ve dabbled with the odd show of reality TV and when my interest
has dwindled with a particular show I have found some other show
sparks that interest in reality TV once again or it is re-invigorated
by a change in the show’s format.
As reality TV has
remained commonplace on our screens and is increasingly popular
celebrity versions of shows have been made along with dedicated
celebrity reality TV shows. With I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of
Here! having recently graced our screens and Scarlett Moffatt from
Gogglebox fame being crowned the Queen of the Jungle, I have been
thinking about how much celebs are paid to appear on celebrity
reality shows.
Thanks to Cash Lady I
don’t have to wonder anymore. They have recently created a Strictly I’m A Big Celebrity Cash Cow infographic that looks at how much
celebs are paid to go on reality TV shows. Whilst I have always
thought that the money paid to celebs to go on shows would be very
high, I am surprised to see the difference in the amounts that
someone celebs get paid compared to others, for example on Celebrity Big Brother Stephen Bear from Ex On The Beach was reportedly paid £12,000 whilst actor and presenter Christopher Biggins was reportedly paid a whopping £150,000! I guess how famous and
popular they are plays a big part in this.
Do you think the amounts the celebs are paid to take part in reality shows is fair and worthwhile?
