Nursery marks the first step in a child’s academic journey. It is a stage in their life where they will embark on a path which helps them learn through a set curriculum, whilst developing new skills that will prepare them for the life of a hard-working individual. However, many believe children purely go to nursery to play and be observed. Whilst there is some truth to this, a lot more is involved than perceived. Communication and language
Learning how to communicate with those around them is a crucial part in a child’s development. During their time at nursery, children will get the chance to work on their attention and listening skills, as well as how to respond to others. Many times, this is taught through conversations, nursery rhymes and circle time where they share stories. By the time they leave nursery, the aim is to ensure little ones have built the confidence and skill set needed to express themselves well.
Physical development
Physical development is important for a healthy lifestyle. At nursery, teachers use this area of learning to help little ones stay active and make healthy choices. Through the endless opportunities to run, jump and play, your child will develop their fine and gross motor skills, which are needed to complete everyday tasks.
Personal development
As well as teaching a child how to understand and respond to the behaviours of others, they are also taught how to manage their own feelings. This is done by allowing them time to play and make friends whilst working on managing their emotions in a healthy way.
