Gigantosaurus: Dino Kart review

GIFTED

Race into a brand new Gigantosaurus game with Gigantosaurus: Dino Kart.

Following on from the dino-tastic first game, Gigantosaurus: The Game which we absolutely loved, Gigantosaurus: Dino Kart is the first ever kart racing game in the Gigantosaurus franchise.

Created by the leading publisher of family friendly interactive entertainment, Outright Games, in partnership with Cyber Group Studios, Gigantosaurus: Dino Kart is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC.

Gigantosaurus gaming

The fun, family friendly Gigantosaurus The Game featured a kart racing mini-game where gamers raced through the dinosaur lands in prehistoric vehicles to get to the next land as they bravely adventured to save the day. Aimed at very young gamers and fans of the Gigantosaurus franchise, the game was very family friendly and perfect for little ones learning how to game. The kids loved it and found it lots of fun…even to this day they still giggle galore as they race around on logs and teleport to each other in bubbles, popping on the other one’s head.

The little kart racing in the first game is now a full-fledged, standalone kart racing game. Inspired by the racing in Gigantosaurus The Game and the “Racing Giganto” episode from the hit TV show, the new game is a roaring race game with playable characters from the show and fifteen tracks that the dinos can race on through the land of Cretacia.

Vibrant visuals and super sounds

The game transports fans of the popular show into the Gigantosaurus lands that feature recognisable landscapes and beloved characters. The backgrounds are simple, yet the characters are detailed, vibrant and eye-catching. Whilst the different landscapes are basic they are recognisable as prehistoric settings and comparable to the lands from the Gigantosaurus show, helping the game be in keeping with the show and identifiable for fans. The visuals are true to the show and are competently created as a game aimed at young children, not a game made for older children or adults.

The game boasts eight different playable characters from the show who are instantly recognisable, looking just as they do from the show, cute and colourful! Little gamers can play as fan favourites Bill, Tiny, Mazu, Rocky and Archie. Other characters Cror and Totor, Rugo, and T-Rex can be unlocked by completing tournaments in Adventure mode.

The characters are lively, animated and all voiced. The characters being voiced helps bring them to life especially when they are enthusiastic before races which my little fan of the show loves. The music is upbeat and joyful which compliments the vibrant, fun and friendly world of Gigantosaurus.

Little gamer friendly

Simple yet fun, this dino kart racing game is little gamer friendly. Aimed at young ones that love the show, the game is designed to introduce them to the world of gaming in a fun, easy and stress free way.

Helping young gamers who are new to gaming get to grips with controls, the game has an optional auto-steering feature so they don’t have to worry about navigating the course and auto accelerating karts to make racing easier for very young gamers. As the target demographic of the game is pre-schoolers and those just starting school who do not know how to read yet or are just starting to learn to read, the game features helpful on-screen text tips read aloud by Mazu the brainy Ankylosaurus. These features help make the game accessible for all and helps young gamers try gaming without it being too difficult that will likely cause a temper tantrum or lots of tears!

Terrific tracks and roarsome vehicles

The dino racers all have their own roarsome vehicles that are in keeping with the prehistoric theme. The vehicles are cute, colourful and quirky. Littlest loves the different vehicles and finds it fun to pick what vehicle/character to race with, at the moment Tiny and his dino-tastic vehicle is his favourite.

Gigantosaurus: Dino Kart boasts 15 tracks for little gamers to race around. The game puts players in the driver seat as they traverse through three different environments in the Savannah, Jungle, and Mount Oblivion Cups. Littlest loves the varied landscapes and that he can race his dino friends on tracks that speed through locations such as fiery volcanic lands, desert landscapes and lush jungles. He loves speeding through puddles, soaring across chasms in the land, finding shortcuts as he tries to get to the finish line first, and most of all dodging Giganto who sometimes stomps around the track!

He also loves the special skills that racers can pick up as they race to help them win, with his favourite being “Giganto’s Roar” which is a roarsome sound that slows down all opponents close by.

The game has 3 cups that racers can compete in and dino awards that can be accomplished. Gamers can play Adventure mode where you race through every track once, unlocking all the tracks, or they can play instant track races. Players who dino-soar through the finish lines can take on “Jetpack” tracks that allow for unique and fun layouts to test their abilities.

Designed with the whole family in mind, the game features 3 levels of difficulty for different age ranges and three playable modes, including “play with friends'' which features up to 4 players couch co-op, guaranteeing fun for the whole family.

Roarsome racing

The fun, challenge level and speed of the game is perfectly targeted at the core demographic of young children who watch the show and are beginners to gaming. Even though it is a game made for young gamers, this family friendly game can be enjoyed by the whole family. As it features split screen play, my littlest gamer can have fun playing with me and his big brothers. Whilst his big brothers who are avid gamers and who play more complex games find the game a little simplistic, they love the joy of playing with him and he adores that he is gaming just like his big brothers.

It is a fun little racing game that is a great standalone Gigantosaurus game and a fab kart racing game for youngsters. That said, the first game, Gigantosaurus: The Game which has a special place in our hearts as it is a joyful game offers more replayability thanks to the open sandbox style gameplay mixed in with mini-races. We hope that the next Gigantosaurus game will be more like the first.

As a parent of a Gigantosaurus fan who is very new to gaming, this game is fabulous for him as he gets to learn and love the art of gaming in a fun way with recognisable characters that he likes. The accessible features of the game make it easier for him to race and the fun tracks, special skills and quirky vehicles keep him entertained. It is a cheerful game ideal for young gamers especially fans of the show.

Gigantosaurus: Dino Kart is available to purchase now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC.
