Why you should take the time to look after yourself

Life can be really stressful at times don't you think! Rushing from one thing to another constantly can really take its toll on our health. It is so easy to let yourself become run down if you aren't careful. But, in between the stresses of day to day life, what is the best way to be able to take some time to stop and relax before you lose yourself?

There are many different things you can do depending on your circumstances, but taking time for yourself whatever your situation, is essential to make sure you are in the best place physically and mentally so you can keep on doing what you are doing.

Caring after our health and well-being

Having a happy and healthy life is something most of us desire. We want to live life to the full, enjoy and live long enough to experience and achieve all that we want.

Not only do we want to be happy and healthy ourselves but we also hope our loved ones are healthy and happy too.

As a parent one of my biggest desires is to live a long life, being as healthy as I can be throughout my years so that I see my children grow old. To see what path their lives lead down, what they achieve and experience as well as what families of their own they create…..perhaps a few grandchildren I can dote on.

Creating a relaxing home environment

Life can be busy, demanding and stressful. Juggling various aspects of life can be challenging. Family life, socialising, hobbies, work, health care appointments, financial commitments and other obligations can be taxing on our time and emotions.

Dealing with the hussle and bussle of life can leave us stressed out and emotionally tired. As many of us have to overcome long, busy and stressful days when we get home we want to relax and de-stress.

A tranquil and stress-free environment is much more suitable for de-stressing from life than a hectic and chaotic environment. As our homes are our havens, they can be a sanctuary from stress.

Spritual practices for personal growth and wellbeing

As we go through life we are continually changing and developing. Our characters, life desires, goals and beliefs can change. Events and circumstances that happen to us can be life changing. They can be the cause of having to change or can make a person want to change. They can inspire a desire for change, spark inspiration for new goals or make a person reflect on their life and decide on improving their wellbeing. The events in our life can encourage a desire for personal growth.

Healthy lifestyle changes

During recent months health issues have plagued many of our loved ones. Some have been more severe than others. From common ailments to severe  life threatening health issues. Migraines, sickness bugs, operations, invisible disabilities and sadly even a death. I too have suffered from ongoing health problems and have had to face a new diagnosis of a chronic lifelong condition.

With health issues touching and changing our lives in many ways it has encouraged me and Lee to reflect on our own health and how we could it improve it.

Health risks of electronic screens

In the tech heavy, electronic fuelled world we live in electronic screens play a significant role in everyday life for most people. Whether for work or play electronic screens have become vital in our day to day life. Smartphones, tablets and laptops are devices that become integrated into our way of life.

They are a gateway to the world wide web, allowing us to have a wealth of information at our disposal at the touch of a button. They allow us to step out from the office and work on the go. They help us keep a finger on the pulse of news around the globe. They allow us to shop for anything and everything from the comfort of our own home. They enable us to share and connect with others as we engage and interact on social media.

Whilst there are an array of benefits to be had from electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets, there are downsides too.

Time for a change

With our eldest child’s 6th birthday fast approaching it has made Lee and I think about how quickly time is flying by and that we are both getting older too. We are far from being spring chickens. I am in my early 30’s now and Lee who is 8 years older hit the big 40 late last year.

As we are getting older and are feeling the aches, pains and tiredness of our busy lives now more than ever we have decided that it is important that we take more care of ourselves. So that we can play and have fun with the kids and be there for them as they grow older we need to think about our health and be as fit and healthy as we can be. Whilst on the whole we are relevantly healthy and do not have many bad habits (we eat healthy and neither of us drink any alcohol) there is always room for improvement which will hopefully leave us healthier with more energy.

5 small changes you can make to improve your life.

Wanting to improve the quality of your life?

Here are five small changes you can make to do just that:

Get more sleep
Is sailing through the day in a sleepy haze a common occurrence for you?

Are you guilty of late night social media browsing or binge watching TV shows?

Just one night of bad sleep can really scupper your memory, along with making your temper flare up throughout the day.

The best solution is to force yourself to go to sleep an hour or two early, before your second wind of energy kicks in.

Give up smoking
Are you a smoker, but can’t face the idea of never smoking again?

It has been proven that many people are actually addicted to the act of smoking rather than the nicotine itself. It’s no secret that vaping has become a fantastic alternative for people. Avoiding things such as the grotty smoke smell that sticks to furniture is one of the best reasons for giving up smoking cigarettes and moving onto e-cigarettes sooner rather than later.

Volunteer for charity
It might take some effort, but improving the lives of others is actually one of the easiest ways of improving our own lives.

There are countless soup kitchens around the country where you can give up an hour or two of your time to help the needy. In return, you could get an adrenaline boost that will make you appreciate the good aspects of your life, ultimately leading to a positive mental attitude.

Get active
Whilst the notion of getting more exercise may not be that appealing, by getting active you will not only benefit your health but also release endorphins that produce a feeling of well-being and happiness.

Getting active can be as simple as going for a walk or choosing to walk to the shops instead of taking the car or bus. You could also embrace exercise by joining a gym, going to keep fit classes, taking up running or jogging or trying a gentler form of exercise such as yoga.

Another benefit of getting active is that it can get you out of the house (unless you choose to exercise in the comfort of your own home) where you could possibly meet new friends.

Enjoy nature
There is practically nothing better for decreasing your anxiety than to go for a gentle walk, enjoying the nature that surrounds you.

For example, places in the north of England, like Yorkshire and Lancashire, are hotspots for idyllic reservoir walks, but even big cities such as London boast some of the most beautiful, scenic parks in the country.
