How to get your family through Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport

Taking a family of four traveling is like trying to herd sheep. But imagine if these sheep got antsy at the slightest provocation or upset. Now imagine they were four year olds who refused to be herded because they wanted to go home and play Fortnite. NOW imagine that your wife sheep forgot everyone’s passports and you had to drive ALL THE WAY HOME, a 40-minute drive that made you 30 MINUTES LATE for your flight…

Sorry everyone, the writer of this article is just getting a few things off his chest.

Let’s ditch the sheep metaphor, because sheep are actually much easier to herd onto a plane than your family. Don’t deny it. You know it’s true.

But you’re going to have to take your kids to the airport sometime, so you’d better be prepared for the worst.

Creating a great welcome email

AD

Even though my blog is now a number of years old I have never really had a email newsletter. A number of years ago I dabbled with the idea of setting up a email newsletter to keep my subscribers informed with new posts but I found the process daunting and soon decided against it.

However recently I have been reconsidering the idea and think that it would be good to have a email newsletter for my blog. Personally I am subscribed to many email newsletters of blogs I read and find them good for keeping me up-to-date when new blog posts are published.

But how do I make my email newsletters interesting and exciting? In a bid to make my email newsletters appealing to subscribers and not just another email in their inbox that they find boring or bin straight away without even reading, I have been researching email marketing tips.

5 web design tips for creating a good website

I’ve been blogging about 4 and a half years or so now. Before then the world of blogs and web design was alien to me. When Bug was a mere few months old when looking for some information about all things baby on the world wide web I stumbled across a few parenting blogs and soon found myself regularly reading them.

Then suddenly one day I idea of creating and writing my own blog became appealing and before I knew it I was researching how to make a blog. This blog was then born, first named Bumps 2 Babies and then later on when I found my feet a little renamed Where Roots And Wings Entwine.

Over the years I have learnt lots about blogging, social media and web design. The once alien world of things like HTML and seo are now no longer completely unknown to me and I have learnt the basics.

Tips for renting a house

Since I moved out of my childhood family home where I lived with my mum and sister at the age of 18, I have rented a number of properties. Over the 14 years or so (eeek where does the time go?) I have experienced renting a few different properties from very different landlords.

Thankfully I have never had a nightmare landlord and not had any major issues when renting but the experiences have been very different and over the years I have learnt a lot about renting. My experience with renting has helped me learn how best to rent smartly so that I am aware of my rights and responsibilities which help make renting easier for a hassle-free and happy home.

Whilst I have not had any horrific renting experiences personally I have known a few friends who have had terrible times renting and had nightmare landlords. One friend who was not savvy about renting with it being their first time renting a property on their own had a landlord who did not use Tenants Deposit Scheme and she had him refuse to pay any of her deposit back when she moved out in spite of there being no cause not to return it as she had left the property immaculate and is it was the day she moved in. Another friend had major problems getting his landlord to fix any issues or problems in the home even though the landlord was responsible for fixing them and keeping the house in a good state of repair as per their contract.

The 7 tips to help you buy your next family car

There are many purchases that become essential when it comes to having children. It’s amazing how the shopping list expands, and things you hadn’t even considered suddenly enter the fray. But one of the most significant purchases you can make as a young family is that of a new car. It is such a big part of family life that commonly we even take our car with us when we relocate. Thankfully if you need to move vehicles to go with your new life there are companies who move cars worry free, for more information click here. When it comes to buying a car, finding something that’s spacious, reliable, economical and, above all, good value for money is no easy thing, particularly when you consider the wider picture.

After all, it isn’t just about the cost price of the car. Running costs, insurance, servicing and depreciation are significant factors, and will use up a considerable amount of your budget. So the key is to get it just right. Many have a preference for buying new cars, with the guarantees and warranties that come with them firmly in mind. Yet while that is understandable, there is still good value to be had in the used-car market too.Whichever route you decide to go down, it’s vital to cover your bases, thus ensuring that the car you eventually choose is the right one for you. Here are some tips to help you get there.

1. Look at the one-year market
The downside to buying new cars, quite simply, is this: they plummet in value as soon as you drive them away for the first time. In fact, new cars lose up to 40 per cent of their value over the first 12 months. Certain brands hold their value better than others, but the bottom line is that you are dramatically slashing your upfront costs if you look within this particular niche – and should still be able to find something in great condition.

With so much to do when moving house and the emotions it can cause the experience can be a very stressful one. Having moved lots myself I can fully attest to the fact that moving house is a quite an upheaval and a stressful experience!

Running a small business

Many people dream of owning their own business. The idea of being your own boss and running your own business is appealing but it can be extremely hard work.

Whilst the thought of not not having to answer to a boss and creating your own dream business is idyllic, running your own business is a big responsibility and requires a lot of work and dedication.

As I've watched and helped my own family run the family farm business for years from before I was born and have worked for a number of small family run businesses I have seen firsthand how hard it can be to run a business.

Moving house with kids

Over the years I've moved house a lot of times. Since the first time we moved house when I was a toddler the number of times I've had to pack up my belongings and move to a new house has reached double digits.

When I was a child moving was an exciting and fun experience. After moving out of my mum's home at the age of 18 then moving house quite a few times as an adult I have experienced first hand how moving house can be a hard and stressful experience.

Whilst moving house by myself with a little help from friends and family was a stressful experience it was nothing in comparison to moving house with kids in tow!

4 tips for travelling with a toddler

Hooray for the holiday season, I think it’s safe to say that we begin counting down the days to our summer vacations just after Christmas? Am I right?

However, as much as we are excited when there is a child (or two) in tow, there is always a little hint of trepidation nestled in there too.

But take a deep breath, a sip of gin and prepare to write your ‘to pack’ list because it CAN be done.

Summer bedding for a good night's sleep

Getting a good night's sleep can be affected by the environment we sleep in. Noise, clutter, temperature, lighting, comfort level of bed and mattress, and bedding can all affect how peacefully we fall asleep and whether we have a good, undisturbed full night's sleep.

As we are in the summer months and hoping for sunny weather that has the downside of leaving the nights hot and humid which make make sleeping well challenging we have switched out our winter bedding for bedding better suited for the summer. Heavy duvet covers, high tog duvets, blankets, and extra pillows have been stored away in the airing cupboard and the summer bedding has been refreshed before adorning the beds.
