Protecting the mattress – Organic Mattress Protector by The Little Green Sheep.

Whilst Bug has been potty trained and dry at night for nigh on 3 years, on the odd occasion he has been poorly, drinking more fluids and not as quick as he normally would, there have been a few near misses that have endangered keeping his mattress clean and dry. As I believe it is best to be prepared and cover ‘what ifs’ I have always made sure that we have a mattress protector on his bed just in case of accidents whether they are toilet related ones or drink spills.

Having been impressed with The Little Green Sheep’s SnuzPod and the quality of the Snuz mattress protector for it, I was delighted when The Little Green Sheep offered the chance to try out their single bed size Organic Mattress Protector on Bug’s bed.

As soon as I took the mattress protector out of the packaging I was immediately impressed with how plush, thick and soft it was thanks to being made from luxury 100% organic cotton. The mattress protector screams quality; compared to his other standard mattress protector this is a luxurious, superior and super comfortable version.

When I think about mattress protectors images of thin and plastic sheets that are make a racket at the slightest movement spring to mind. The Little Green Sheep has forever changed that image for me as their mattress protector is completely silent, even when Bug is moving around lots in his sleep I have not heard a single squeak or plastic noise from the mattress protector.

At 90 x 190cm the natural, unbleached and organically grown cotton mattress protector fits Bug’s standard sized single bed perfectly.

The mattress protector is easy to fit on the bed; it can either just be placed to lay flat on top of the mattress or secured in placed by using the elastic straps at the corners. I appreciate the protector’s design because as the protector is flat rather than fitted it allows the mattress to breathe. Another bonus is that it provides a barrier against dust mites.

Thanks to the 100% organic cotton material covering a layer of safe food grade polyurethane the mattress protector is extra absorbent, absorbing moisture and wetness instead of letting it pool on the surface. As well as being absorbent and keeping little ones clean and dry, it is 100% waterproof, preventing wetness and moisture from soaking onto the mattress.

Whilst we have not had any major accidents to fully test out the mattress protector’s absorbency, when Bug had a small spill or his drink the other day to my relief the protector saved the mattress from getting soaked. The mattress protector has also been useful to prevent the mattress getting damp from Bug’s excessive night sweats, normally his sheets and mattress would be damp in the morning but since using The Little Green Sheep mattress protector his mattress is completely dry.

As the mattress protector is not completely fitted like his other protectors I was a little doubtful that it would not shift under the bed sheet especially as Bug is a serial wriggler, not staying still for a moment even in sleep. To my surprise and delight even when the protector was laid flat on the mattress without the straps in use, the protector stayed put!

A huge bonus is that the protector is machine washable and tumble dryer safe, which is perfect if the mattress protector has had to do its job and protect the mattress from a wet accident and you need a quick turn on getting it clean and dry once again.

I also appreciate the fact that by using such a superior mattress protector it will protect Bug’s mattress keeping it clean and dry, helping it last longer. Plus if we ever have another baby I can borrow it for the later stages of pregnancy when the risk of water’s breaking in bed is an all time high.
