Teaching Your Child to Use Social Media Responsibly

There are many benefits to social media. It allows us to keep up with current trends and connect with our friends and family. However, social media can also be quite a dangerous place, especially for young people who are naïve to the dangers. It’s important for parents to teach their children to use social media responsibly so that they stay out of harm’s way. Here is some advice from an alternative school in London.

Time off

I've never really been religious when it comes to blogging and social media. I've always had the attitude of its my blog and I will write when and if I want to.

Recently I have been more quite than usual. It was never a conscious decision to have a set amount of time off apart from a few days over Christmas but those few days have turned into a few weeks and I have felt better for it.

With a few birthdays of loved ones in December, Christmas and my anniversary with my beloved I wanted to take time off from blog work to enjoy time with loved ones and cherish the moments without having pressure of blog work floating in my thoughts when trying to make the most of the time.

How social media can make or break your business

Why social media is a double-edged sword
It’s probably safe to say that social media has a variety of benefits; whether we’re talking about Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, these platforms have allowed us to network and engage with others in a way that was unfathomable, just a few short years ago. The caveat, however, is that these very platforms are the same ones that have placed some companies in harm's way.

Obviously, posting something as benign as your office’s potluck is no cause for concern, but what about the disgruntled employee who feels compelled to rant about perceived problems in the workplace or someone who discloses proprietary company information on these sites? Social media has made the world, especially the corporate world, a lot smaller; information can be disseminated with the click of a button and could result in unfavorable repercussions for a company.

Social Media and Marketing for Bloggers survey

Over the past few years social media has become integrated into my daily life. My first dalliance with social media was way back when MySpace and MSN messenger was all the rage.

Then Facebook entered my life. At first it was all about catching up with old school friends then when I became a pregnant and then a mum it was a gateway to a group of fellow mums who I could chat with who were friendly and supportive. Living away from family it was also a way to share with loved ones pictures and stories of our family.

Online habits.

After recently reading an article regarding a survey charting the nation’s online habits I got thinking about my own online habits.  I must admit I do spend too much time online and often get sucked into the World Wide Web, loosing hours in its realm and dabbling with a variety of social network sites.

My love affair with the wonderful www started a number of years ago and during the dark days of my depression that kept me housebound it was a lifeline that not only allowed me to keep in touch with loved ones but also enabled me meet friendly and supportive people with virtual friendships developing into lifelong friendships.  It was in fact thanks to the internet (and a close friend) that I met the love of my life which led to my little family.

As Lee’s family lives over 200 miles away Facebook has become an essential lifeline to us as a family to allow us to keep in touch with his family and update them on Bug’s adventures and milestones, allowing us to share lots and lots of pictures of Bug with them.
